End Out-of-School Suspensions in Buffalo Schools
For 20 months, the Board of Education has sat on its hands regarding its out-of-school suspension policy that has proven ineffective and dangerous. But, because of our hard work, they recently proposed changes that would alter the suspension policy: ending out out-of-school suspensions for Pre-Kindergarten, working to communicate more with elementary school parents, and adding more student support rooms and counselors.
This is a step in the right direction, but it's only the start. We must keep the pressure on until they end out-of-school suspensions for non-violent infractions! We should be working with our kids in the schools, not putting them out on the streets! Sign our petition urging the Board to act now!
As parents, students, and members of the Buffalo community, we call on the Board of Education to change its unjust and dangerous out-of-school suspension policy that kicks students out of school for non-violent infractions. We demand that the Board change the policy to keep non-violent students in school instead of sending them into the streets.
