Financial Reform Requires Independence and Enforcement

Yesterday, the New York Times published leaked information about Senator Dodd's new financial reform package, expected to be introduced in the Senate as soon as this week.

Unlike the bill that passed the House of Representatives last year that would make an independent Consumer Financial Agency, Senator Dodd's bill will create a new bureau within the Department of Treasury to keep an eye on Wall Street. The problem: the same regulators that looked the other way while Wall Street preyed on the pocketbooks of Americans will have a veto power on the regulations this bureau creates.

Big money lobbyists have been working day and night, spending millions to protect Wall Street profits - continuing their irresponsibility and greed.

We can't let our economy go down the tubes again. We can't afford it.

Use the form below to tell Senators Schumer and Gillibrand that America needs an independent Consumer Financial Protection Agency with strong enforcement powers if real financial reform is going to have any chance of preventing another financial crisis.
