Join us on Saturday, May 19th, as we Knock for the 99% – going door to door in communities across New York to tell your neighbors about the plan for Fair Elections – elections for the 99%.
Right now, our elections aren’t working for us – they’re working for 1% CEO campaign contributors. By writing fat checks, the 1% influence elected officials to create policies that only serve to make the rich richer. Our priorities – like good schools, affordable health care, clean air and water, and other critical services – get left behind.
Fair Elections campaign finance reform would encourage candidates to raise money from small donations, and then match those small donations with public funding. Candidates won’t have to rely on deep-pocket donors and CEO campaign contributors to run for office. A hedge fund manager may make more money than us, but that shouldn’t make their vote more powerful than ours. With Fair Elections, the 99% can own our elections again.
It’s time we make sure that all New Yorkers have an equal voice in our political process…we must achieve fundamental campaign finance reform by implementing a system of public funding of elections.
